How Reading during Lockdown Changed my Life and a tutorial on making Bookmarks

How to Make a Bookmark using scrap fabric

Did you know that April 23rd is the World Book Day! World book day is organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing & copyright. The first one was celebrated back in 1995. Book day is celebrated differently in different regions. But the idea revolves around inculcation the love for books.

I am a book lover since a very early age. I am not really very sure where did that actually come from but since I belonged to a family of teachers and professors I guess the influence is clear.

As a 6th or 7th grader me and my friend were a regular at the library finding novels and stories. “Enid Blyton’ used to be our favorite! We were always annoyed by the limit they had on the number of books we could borrow at one time…like we wanted to get them all at once! And our Mom used to get tones of art and craft books during the holidays, those days without phones, Pinterest and Instagram were amazing! I still love all my craft books.

As I grew up it reduced but still I kept reading, fairy tales and novels shifted to motivational and self help books.

As I grew up it reduced but still I kept reading, fairy tales and novels shifted to motivational and self help books. Dale Carnegie, Who moved My Cheese, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, You can Win… the lisy=t is long! I still have my whole collection at my Mom’s place. Can’t wait to get it all once we shift to our own place (Soon!!).

As I got married and started decorating and styling my own home I shifted to Magazines more and almost forgot about the books.

Coming to the present, I have started reading again! This time the books are more to help me with overcoming depression and anxiety. Every day I spend at least 30-40 minutes reading, more if possible. I have found some life changing books during this time and I am so happy and thankful that I am already experiencing the benefits and seeing a change in myself. Whenever I am having a stressful day I turn to my books and that relaxes me a lot.

Having suffered from depression and anxiety on and off for the past 10-11 years, finally I reached the point where I said “Enough” to myself! That wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life or live my life like that, I was always a Creative person and loved sharing what I do through teaching, I made it my focus along with being the best possible version of myself for my 4 year old. What I thought was impossible a year ago, I saw it coming to life and that motivated me to keep going. I am not saying I am 100% out of it but I am close! Nothing surrounding me has changed, what has changed is my mindset.

Anyways this blog post was more for sharing my love of books with you and a fun tutorial, scroll to the end for it. If you want to hear more of what I did to battle anxiety and depression let me know in the comments, I would love to share more in a dedicated post.
